Lyrics

I don’t want to hurt your feelings
But sitting here, I can’t keep still
You’re pacing back and forth by the telephone
And watching you, it makes me ill

But what can I say?
It seems you have lost your mind
You’ve given up your social life
For this girl that’s left you behind

I’ve told you once and maybe twice before
That she’s never going to call
But you’re so caught up in your little love
That you don’t seem to care at all

But what can I say?
It seems you have lost control
So quit while you are behind
Or you won’t know where to go

Chorus
I can’t take it, your life’s taken
Over by false hope
Your time’s wasted, your friends hate it
You have lost control
If you’re planning to keep this up
For the rest of your life
I’m telling you, you’re wasting your time

You approach me in the hall and ask me what to do
But I already told you I don’t care
“Oh come on, please!” you tell me once again
But I just pretend you’re not there

Because you don’t seem to notice
The people surrounding you
All you care about is this stupid girl
That doesn’t want to talk to you

(Chorus)

Trivia

The original opening riff for “False Hope” was one of the first riffs Bryce had ever written on guitar, but it got scrapped when Bryce couldn’t figure out how to write a second guitar part. Several years later, he would learn the riff didn’t work because it was in mixed meter! That riff would later be recycled for the song “Prove Myself” (which was originally slated to be the opening track for Somewhere in Dreamworld), but you can hear shades of the riff during the first part of the solo section of “False Hope.”

This song was first performed by Bryce’s high school band, Rascality.
