Lyrics

I feel bad for you
Mocking the man with ambition
Laughing as you stand
Yet you never try to mend your condition

Try as you may
Every single day
You still do what they say
It’s true
You’re acting so tall
But you’re feeling so small
When your friends never call
I feel bad for you

Chorus
So come on! Come on!
Do the lemming life
Come on! Come on!
Do the walk-in-the-line
You do as you’re told
And you’ll never be sold
On learning something new
I feel bad for you

So just keep laughing
You’ll be baffled by the battle, and I’ll win
You’ll be coming to the show
And telling everyone you know that you’re my friend
So?

I kinda like
When you’re falling behind
Every single time you lose
(You lose)
You always complain:
“Every day is the same”
And you’re “covered in rain”
Sounds so sad for you
It’s true

(Chorus)

So come on! Come on!
Do the lemming life
Come on! Come on!
Do the walk-in-the-line

If you do as you’re told
And you never be bold
You’re always going to lose
If you’re walking in line
And you’re looking behind
You’ll always sing the blues
I say the secret to life
Is an educated mind
And a brain you’ll always use
If you want to be free
Take a good look at me
And if you don’t learn something new
I feel bad for you

Trivia

Bryce wrote most of this song before even touching an instrument. He was working in a print shop at the time, and keeping his mind busy by singing and dancing while he worked. Another co-worker gave him dirty looks, as if to look down upon Bryce for singing and dancing. This inspired the line “I feel bad for you, mocking the man with ambition,” which inspired the first verse, the chorus, and the structure for the entire song, including the main riff. 4 hours after he got home, “I Feel Bad For You” was almost complete, except for the 2nd Verse lyrics and the guitar solo.

This is the first Midnight Notion song to receive radio airplay, thanks to the Loud and Local Show on 93X.

“The Lemming Life” was inspired by one of Bryce’s childhood favorite video games, Lemmings. This is not his only song to feature the same line.

The concept of people walking in line without questioning the world or trying new things often gets depicted as robotic figures marching, but since Bryce’s inspiration came while he was stuffing paper into boxes, he decided to depict these people as “box people.” That concept inspired the album artwork.
