A couple of weeks ago, to prepare myself for the big Metallica concert at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, I decided to play every Metallica riff I could remember, live on Facebook. This week, Blink-182 is coming to town, and it turns out that I know how to play a lot of their songs!
Dusting off Tomato Soup, my very first guitar, I plugged in, and went live on Facebook for 2 whole hours! Those who watched live had the ability to comment on what songs they wanted to hear me play, or to ask me about Blink-182’s influence on my own music. Of course, I didn’t realize—until more than halfway through—that my phone was not giving me the comments live, so I had to resort to using my computer to see the updates. Regardless, I started with the album Cheshire Cat and played everything I could, all the way through Take Off Your Pants and Jacket. I even finished it off with my own song, “Karen”, as a special treat for those who were participating.
Just like the Metallica covers, it was a little rocky at times. I found myself forgetting lyrics and riffs. At one point, I even tried to learn a song that I had never attempted to learn before. It was a good time for me, and I hope everyone watching live enjoyed what they saw as well!
