Above the image is the Midnight Notion logo, in light gray, and below the image are the words "Heart Attack." Heart Attack – Sum 41 Cover

I struggled for a long time with what song I wanted to do for the latest Theme Music challenge: Medical Emergency. There were a lot of songs I enjoy that seemed to fit, and there was even an unreleased original song that I almost recorded. But at the end of the day, I had to go with one of my most favorite bands in the world: Sum 41.

A friend of mine introduced me to Sum 41 in 2002. I was an instant fan. I’d put their albums on a loop while playing Nintendo 64, but I’d always have to pause the game so I could air-drum and sing along. I bought all their albums, and went to every show when they came to town. Heck, I even got pictures with the band!

Unfortunately, the only picture I still have is the one with Dave, but that night was wonderful for me. My girlfriend at the time got yelled at by Stevo for knocking on their bus door. He wrote all over her shirt: “you are obnoxious!” We both thought it was the best, funniest thing. Deryk and Cone came out to sign autographs as well, but Dave was being a true hero, talking to everyone like they really mattered. He was giving advice to aspiring guitar players, and just being a great human being. It’s musicians like that who truly inspire me.

Anywho, I knew the day would come that I’d make a Sum 41 cover song music video—I just didn’t know which one would be first. But now I know, and now you know, so let’s just get right to it, shall we?

Here’s my version of “Heart Attack” by Sum 41, from All Killer No Filler. Enjoy!
